IPSWICH — Police Chief and Harbormaster Paul A. Nikas would like to share an update on the construction work for the boat ramp and ramp walls at the Town Wharf.
In mid-April, crews began working to replace the ramp walls and structure, and cap the sea wall. However, in mid-May it was announced that further study of the structure had revealed that it needed to be fully replaced due to structural deficiencies.
Starting Monday, June 15, the public will now be able to launch their boats from the Ipswich Town Wharf ramp and have limited use of the area. Only one vehicle at a time will be permitted on the ramp due until the full apron is completely installed.
Fees to use the launch are $5 for one day of use and $35 for the season. Launch stickers can be purchased online here.
Though there are some docks in the water, residents can only load and unload at the ramp until further notice. The finger docks will be installed on Thursday, June 18 and finished the following day.
Work will continue through the end of the month.
Parking remains limited while the remaining work is completed. No parking or trailer parking will be permitted on East Street. All overflow parking shall park at the upper lot at Ipswich Town Hall, 25 Green St. Those parking in that lot should back their trailers into spots and onto the field. Only the vehicle should be in the spot.
“We thank residents for their patience and cooperation as crews have been working diligently to finish up the reconstruction work at the Town Wharf,” Chief Nikas said. “We will continue to update you as the last few pieces of the work are completed.”
The project is being funded and overseen by the Fishing and Boat Access Office of the Massachusetts State Department of Fish and Game.
