The Ipswich Regional Animal Control (IRAC) provides animal control and inspection services to the Towns of Ipswich, Boxford, Newbury & Rowley. The mission of the IRAC is to provide a protective barrier for the prevention of Rabies between the citizens of participating municipalities and domestic and wild animals. Animal Control will protect our citizens by active enforcement of all state and local laws, the humane sheltering of stray and unwanted animals, and the education of responsible pet ownership. The primary objective of the Animal Control Officer/Animal Inspector (ACO/AI) is to provide quality professional services to the citizens, while dedicating themselves to improving the co-existence of animals and humans.
The IRAC program is currently staffed by 2 full time ACO/AI, and 1 per diem AI. In partnership with the Ipswich Humane Group we are able to successfully intake dogs, cats and the occasional exotic animals. The ultimate goal is for every animal to be adopted out to a forever home. Lastly, in partnership with the Ipswich Police Department, the IRAC now has two Animal Cruelty Investigators. These two investigators are full time Ipswich Police Officers designated to assist in cases involving crimes against animals.
